When to use this technique of Hypnotherapy to Stop Habits
Use this when you find yourself doing something you consciously don’t want to do, like smoking, overeating, or whatever.

Sometimes it is difficult for us to understand why others do what they do and do not make the choices which would improve things for them.

It is even more difficult for us to understand why we ourselves do not stop doing things that are harmful, or potentially harmful to us too! Part of us DOES know and in its way, is trying to help us feel safer or bring us pleasure.
Sometimes a habit seems to have a mind of its own, beyond our conscious promises and will power - and that assumption is correct! You cannot solve an unconscious behaviour outside of the uconscious, no matter how diligently you bring your conscious awareness to it. That makes everything worse as we add a big dollop of guilt into the mix and end up with a conflict of consciousness within ourselves. We need Hypnotherapy to Stop Habits because Hypnotherapy is the way of accessing and affecting the deeper mind where all the habit are; the good and the bad. Habits that serve are good, habits that spoil are bad!
Here are ways to understand and influence the choices people, including ourselves, make.
Choose to Improve: Making Choice Conscious
Choices often happen at an unconscious level based upon how we were brought up, the beliefs and attitudes of parents and carers and our attempts to protect ourselves from criticism and attack.
Did you Choose to be Frightened?
For example, a person does not consciously choose to be afraid of heights. Fear of heights is a natural, inbuilt mechanism to protect us from falling and taking unnecessary risks.
Later in life, some people choose to overcome that fear by rewording fear as excitement and maybe they seek to parachute jump or mountain climb to experience the thrill of heights. They choose to engage.
Choice is the most powerful thing
Choice is the most powerful thing a human being can do and often a person either unconsciously makes a choice or allows others to choose for them, sometimes to their detriment.
You cannot just stop an unconscious deep ingrained behaviour
So, how do we make choice a conscious thing and how do we enable others to do so for themselves so that they truly understand the various elements of that choice and the consequences of their action – AND the consequences of their Inaction? With Hypnotherapy to Stop Habits we can take that conscious awareness further and actually use the unconscious to experiment with doing something different instead.
It is all about YOU! Everything begins with you.
Go through this article with yourself in mind because by understanding yourself and the choices you make.
Then, by questioning and understanding those choices, you are able to more easily help others do likewise and ultimately guide them to bringing about the change in the choices they make leading to an improved condition.
Doing Naughty Things
Take an example of something you do quite regularly that part of you regards as ‘bad’ or unhealthy or inappropriate.
This could be eating to excess, drinking too much alcohol and later wishing you had not, accepting a cigarette when you thought you had given up, shouting at a child or pet too harshly (to protect them from something, usually) and watching how scared of you they became.
Catch Yourself in the Act
If you are centred enough to catch yourself in the present moment of doing something naughty, then keep the questions in the present tense. If this was something you did in the past that you regret, or even that you despise yourself for, put the following into the past tense.
This is a choice
This is my choice
I am choosing to ……
My reason for this choice is…….
This is what I am feeling, this is how I am going to respond.
This is the action I am going to take.
The result of my action was……
That was my choice too.
Use Your Experience
You cannot go beyond something that you don’t do. So all experience is useful. Ignoring or denying needs and desires means you do not move beyond them and improve conditions and moreover that behaviour will rise up again all the more stronger because of ignoring or denying its presence.
There is Reason for Everything: Your Role is to Find It
When we understand the choices we make and the reasons why others do what THEY do, for the reasons we explain to ourselves and the reasons they explain to you, then everything changes.
FREEDOM!
Choice is the key, denying the choice is the blockage, so recognising and taking responsibility for choice is freedom.
I know it is tricky to do for yourself, though please do all you can to communicate with that part of the mind that is always standing by ready to help you. It really is just trying to help so at least stop beating up on it!
