A Person lying down to sleep maybe Can't Sleep, Won't Sleep, though Will Sleep -with Hypnotherapy for Sleep Problems!

"Why on Earth Can't I Sleep?" I am so glad you are reading this. I get to tell you that sleep happens all by itself. Ironically, it is in trying to sleep that it becomes so evasive.

Why Use Hypnotherapy for Sleep Problems?

The term 'hypnotherapy' comes from 'Ipnos', the Greek word for sleep. Therefore, hypno-therapy is literally 'Sleep' Therapy for Sleep!

The 'hypnotic state' that all hypnotherapists use to help you is akin to a 'body sleep.' This is the state we all experience when we are between sleeping and waking, like enjoying a nice lie-in. When you are properly relaxed, we talk to that part of the mind that deals with sleep and get it to do its job.

We all sleep, but just like our bodies differ in shape and size, our sleeping patterns can vary dramatically. We each have unique experiences that reflect our health issues and habits, which all affect our sleep patterns.

You may not consciously know how you get to sleep, how you remain asleep, or what to do if you awaken in the night. I am here to help. Most people consciously TRY to sleep, but the magic of getting to sleep lies beyond conscious awareness. In fact, it is your conscious awareness of trying to sleep that stops it from happening.

No matter what causes your sleepless nights, hypnotherapy for sleep problems is here to help settle those issues for you. Literally. We can talk to your unconscious mind and remove that conflict so you can do what you are meant to do: sleep deeply and heal your mind and body every single night. We do this for clients almost daily. Take a look at the video below.

How Do We Sleep?

Let’s say you have a good friend you trust. One day, you sleep in the same room as them, and suddenly, you feel like you don’t know them at all! You might be on a long train journey or watching a film, and there they are, nodding off again! How do they do it? They may be able to sleep through a hurricane or on a clothesline, or like a log—there are so many expressions we use.

Two tired young men try to sleep in orange train seats beside a window, arms crossed, one with a calm, sleepy mood, the other frustrated and wide awake.
You know THAT friend who can nod off anywhere?!

Even partners who have loved and lived together for years often resort to sleeping in separate bedrooms because one disturbs the other. It’s a real shame.

Why Sleep is Good for Us

Sleep is crucial for many brain functions. It helps nerve cells (neurons) communicate and form connections. During sleep, your mind sorts everything out at deeper levels of consciousness.

Contrary to popular belief, a lot happens while you sleep. Your mind and body can stay very active, doing wonderful things for your health and well-being. We all know that a good night's sleep is beneficial. A disturbed night or deep deprivation can have detrimental effects the next day.

Recent findings show that sleep plays a vital role in removing toxins from your brain and body that build up while you are awake. When you reach those deeper levels of sleep, real healing occurs: you build new tissue, repair bones, regulate your nervous system, and restore balance.

We all agree that 'everything is better after a good night's sleep,' right? The challenge is getting that quality sleep that some crave. Hypnotherapy for Sleep Problems resolves those irritating issues that prevent you from getting the sleep you deserve.

Why Not Enough Sleep is Bad

Clinical research shows that a lack of sleep or poor-quality sleep increases the risk of disorders like high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity.

Oh yes, and I must mention that a lack of dreaming can drive you insane! When soldiers were deprived of sleep for three or four days, the lines between reality and the dream-like state began to blur. They started to hallucinate and display signs of psychosis and paranoia. The military quickly learned that we want our soldiers alert and sane. Thus, a good night's sleep is deemed essential for everyone.

Why Can’t I Make Myself Sleep?

Sleep seems to happen all by itself because it is an unconscious process. Yes, sleep resides in that part of the mind we are unaware of, hence it being termed 'unconscious.' We all know what happens when we become painfully aware of not sleeping, especially when we have a 'big day' tomorrow.

Stop Trying

When we try to sleep, that’s when we have difficulty. Trying consciously to do something we do unconsciously interrupts the entire process. Try folding your arms the ‘wrong’ way or clasping your hands together and then changing which thumb is on top. It feels weird, doesn’t it?

I am so glad you are reading this because I can tell you that sleep happens all by itself. Ironically, it is in trying to sleep that it becomes so elusive. Sleep is in the domain of the unconscious mind. When you consciously want to sleep or are plagued by conscious intrusive thoughts, it’s no wonder that sleep has trouble kicking in.

Just when we want to settle down and think of ‘nothing’ to sleep, that’s often when our minds remind us of all sorts of things we should be doing or haven’t done. Sometimes, even a silent mind struggles to find sleep, perhaps due to outside influences, diet, or habit. Our program, 'Sleep Less, More Rest,' explains all of this in detail through delightfully short videos! Go click that link I gave you above to take a look.

What Are the Symptoms of Insomnia?

Are you struggling to sleep? The more you try to sleep, the less you seem able to do this simple thing. Babies do it so easily, yet here you are, lying awake, trying to force yourself. You may be hard on yourself for not being able to do this ‘simple’ thing, especially knowing you have an important day tomorrow.

Or maybe you’ve distracted yourself all day, and now you dwell on the past or worry about the future. You might think your willpower is to blame. There’s nothing worse than feeling out of control, so let's fix that. Listen to one of my audios or come see me, or book a virtual online session. You know how successful they are from my other articles!

You remember our Canadian friend Tom from our article about his Moth Phobia? Well, he came back for more! Here he is, so impressed that he wanted us to share his entire session on our podcast. Each person is different, so we may use different techniques with you. This worked superbly well for Tom, and he wants it to work well for you too.

Hypnosis for Sleep Problems: Sleep Issues Resolved in Real Life Session for You

How Does Hypnotherapy for Sleep Issues Help? The Science!

Sleep does not happen when the brain is too active. If you attach an electroencephalograph to a person's head, you can record their brainwave activity.

An awake and relaxed person generates alpha waves, which are consistent oscillations at about 10 cycles per second. A very alert or somewhat stressed person generates beta waves, which are about twice as fast.

During sleep, two slower patterns called theta waves and delta waves take over, oscillating at less than 3.5 cycles per second. As a person falls asleep and sleep deepens, the brainwave patterns slow down.

The slower the brainwave patterns, the deeper the sleep and hypnosis occurs. When we conduct your hypnotherapy for sleep problems, we guide you into those deeper brainwave states so you can access them again when in the comfort of your own bed.

Worries, frustrations, and concerns about things we cannot control, especially when we are supposed to be sleeping, cause the brain to be too busy for sleep. Hypnotherapy calms everything down and speaks to your Sleep Gatekeeper, allowing you to sleep peacefully throughout the night. You can then attend to those other things in your waking hours when you can do something about them!
