Can't Sleep, Won't Sleep, Will Sleep with Hypnotherapy for Sleep Problems!

"Why on Earth Can't I Sleep!"

Why Use Hypnotherapy for Sleep Problems?

The term 'hypnotherapy' comes from 'Ipnos', the Greek word for sleep. Therefore Hypno-therapy is literally 'Sleep' Therapy for Sleep!

The 'hypnotic state' which all hypnotherapists use to help you, is akin to body sleep, which is basically the state we are all in when we are inbetween sleeping and waking, you know, like having a nice lie in. Then, when you are all properly relaxed, we talk to that part of the mind that deals with sleep and get it to do its job.

We all sleep, right though just like our bodies are different shapes and sizes, so our sleeping patterns can different dramatically. We all have different experiences to reflect upon and maybe certain health issues and bladder integrity, which all affect our own pattern.

You may really not consciously know at all how you get to sleep, how you remain sleep and what you do if you awaken in the night. I am here to help. Yet, most people consciously TRY to sleep when the magic of getting to sleep lies beyond conscious awareness. In fact, it is your conscious awareness of trying to sleep that stops it happening.

HOW do we sleep?

So, let’s say you have a good friend you have known and trusted for years, when one day you sleep in the same room as them you might feel like you don’t know them at all! You may just be on a long train journey or watching a film and there they are, off again! How do they do it? They may be able to sleep through a hurricane or on a clothes lie, like a log - or all the other expressions we have in our colloquisms.

Two tired young men try to sleep in orange train seats beside a window, arms crossed, one with a calm, sleepy mood, the other frustrated and wide awake.

Even partners that have loved and lived with one another for years often resort to sleeping in separate bedrooms as one disturbs another - which is a real shame.

Why Sleep is Good for Us

Sleep is crucial to a number of brain functions, including how nerve cells (neurons) talk to each other and carve connections, renewing some and discarding others . Basically, your mind sorts all your stuff out.

Contrary to popular belief a lot goes on when you are asleep. Your mind and body stay very active while you sleep.

Recent findings found that sleep plays a vital role that removes toxins in your brain and body that build up while you are awake. When you go down to those deeper levels of sleep, real healing takes place: you build new tissue, repair bone, regulate your nervous system and put all that physical stuff back into balance.

We know 'everything is better after a good night's sleep' yes? It is just getting that sleep that some crave. Hypnotherapy for Sleep Problems resolves those irritating issues that are stopping you get the sleep you deserve.

Why not enough is bad

Clinical research shows that a lack of sleep, or getting poor quality sleep, increases the risk of disorders including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity.

Oh yes, and I must that lack of dreaming can make you go insane too! Well, when soldiers were not allowed to sleep properly for three or four days at a time, the lines between reality and the dream-like state started to blur. In essence, they started to hallucinate, to display signs of psychosis and paranoia. The military quickly learned we want our soldiers to be alert and totally sane so thereafter it was deemed a good night sleep is deserved by all, for the good of all.

Why can’t I make myself Sleep?

Sleep seems to happen all by itself because it is an unconscious process. Yes, sleep is in that part of the mind that we are unaware of, hence it being termed 'unconscious'. We all know what happens when we become painfully aware of not sleeping when it's a big day tomorrow.

When we try to sleep that is when we have difficulty, because trying consciously to do something we do UNconsciously interrupts the entire process.  Try folding your arms the ‘wrong’ way or clasping your hands together then changing which thumb is on top. Weird, eh?

I am so glad you are reading this because I get to tell you right now that yes, sleep happens all by itself - but ironically, it is in trying to sleep that it becomes so evasive. Sleep is in the domain of the unconscious mind, and so by consciously wanting to sleep, or being plagued by conscious intrusive thoughts, it's no wonder that sleep has so much trouble kicking in.

It seems just when we want to settle down and think of ‘nothing’ so we can sleep, often that is the time your mind seizes to remind you of all sorts of stuff you should be doing and have not, or brings up situations that you cannot do anything about anyway. Sometimes, even a silent mind struggles to find sleep, perhaps because of outside influences, diet, or habit.

But no matter what causes your sleepless nights, hypnotherapy for sleep problems is here to help and settle all of those issues for you. Literally. We can talk to your unconscious mind and get all of that conflict out of the way so you can do what you are supposed to do: sleep deeply and heal your mind and body, every single night. And we do this for clients almost daily, take a look at the video below.

What are the symptoms of insomnia?

Are you struggling to sleep and cannot, plus the more you try to sleep the less you seem able to do this thing? Babies do it so easily, and yet here you are, lying awake trying to force yourself. Then, you are being really hard on yourself for not being able to do this ‘simple’ thing, and you know you have an important day tomorrow.

Or, maybe you have distracted yourself all day and now you dwell on the past or worry about the future and you think your will power is to blame. There is nothing worse than feeling like you cannot control yourself, so let's fix that. Listen to one of my audios or come see me, or book a virtual online session, you know how successful they are by my other articles!

You remember our Canadian friend Tom from our article on his Moth Phobia? Well, he came back for more! Here he is so very impressed he wanted us to share his entire session on our podcast. Each person is different, so we may use different techniques with you yourself, though this worked superbly well for Tom and he wants it to work for you too.

Hypnosis for Sleep Problems: Sleep Issues Resolved in Real Life Session for You

How does Hypnotherapy For Sleep Issues help? The Science!

Sleep does not happen when the brain is too active.  If you attach an electroencephalograph to a person's head, you can record the person's brainwave activity.

An awake and relaxed person generates alpha waves, which are consistent oscillations at about 10 cycles per second. An very alert or somewhat stressed person generates beta waves, which are about twice as fast.

During sleep, two slower patterns called theta waves and delta waves take over which have oscillations of less than 3.5 cycles per second. As a person falls asleep and sleep deepens, the brainwave patterns slow down.

The slower the brainwave patterns, the deeper the sleep and hypnosis and our doing your hypnotherapy for sleep problems puts you into those deeper brainwave states so you can more easily access them again when in the privacy of your own bed.

Worries, frustrations and concerns about things we cannot do anything about, especially when we are supposed to be sleeping, actually cause the brain to be too busy for sleep. Hypnotherapy calms everything down and talks to your Sleep Gatekeeper to allow you to sleep peacefully throughout the night, attending to all those other things in your waking hours, when you can do something about them!
