Overcoming Trauma Through Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy

Updated: Jun 15

Who would've thought that overeating or a spider phobia would have its roots in trauma? Or how about chosing a romantic relationship that just does not meet your needs, though benefits others greatly?

Many of my clients come to me without even knowing that they have 'trauma'. Trauma-focused hypnotherapy offers a gentle, effective way to heal. It helps you reconnect with your inner strength and regain control of your life. The truth is, many of us have this trauma and don't even recognise it or need to know about it, other than have it healed. The Trauma Focused Hypnotherapy approach I do works well to address and heal any remaining trauma within you and it just might be the right path for you.

What Is Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy?

Trauma-focused hypnotherapy is a specialized form of hypnotherapy designed to address the deep wounds caused by trauma, which usually has its roots in childhood. These trauma events are hidden deep in the mind until a situation occurs to reveal them. Unlike general hypnotherapy, it targets the root of trauma-related issues. This method helps you access your subconscious mind safely, where many traumatic memories and feelings are stored. It happens naturally as part of the therapy that we deliver; brought to light by you, the client, as we serve your therapeutic needs.

During a session, you enter a relaxed, focused state. This state allows your mind to safely process trauma without feeling overwhelmed. You can explore painful memories with less fear and anxiety. The therapist guides you to reframe these memories, reducing their emotional charge.

This approach is gentle and respectful. It honors your pace and readiness. You are always in control, and the therapist supports you every step of the way.

How Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy Helps You Heal

Healing from trauma is not about forgetting or ignoring what happened. It’s about softly addressing and experimenting with changing how those memories affect you today. Trauma-focused hypnotherapy helps by us both recognising how your nervous system is fired off within you by thoughts and emotions which add a very real electric charge which others think 'irrational'. We only really notice our adverse reaction to stimuli when another (usually a loved one or close friend) brings it to attention.

This can correct itself even without therapy, by the recognition that our reaction may be a little 'over the top', all things considered. Isn't it wonderful having people in our lives that have different reactions to situations than we do? It makes us realise that there is always other ways of looking at life and we can all learn from each other. Of course, that is a perfect world scenario - usually we become very upset as the other does not seem to understand us. How can they? They do not have the same trauma. They may indeed have a whole different type of trauma that THEY are dealing with!

I will help you in various ways, such as:

  • Reducing anxiety and fear: I help you to calm your nervous system and lowers stress responses. I do this by accessing the unconscious programming you yourself cannot.

  • Changing negative beliefs: Trauma often leaves us with harmful thoughts like "I am not safe" or "I cannot do anything right." Trauma Focused Hypnotherapy replaces these with positive, empowering beliefs, that we will conjure together to serve you best.

  • Improving emotional regulation: Together, we begin to manage what were once overwhelming feelings much more effectively for you.

  • Enhancing self-awareness: You gain tremendous insight into your triggers and patterns.

  • Building resilience: You develop tools to easily welcome future challenges with confidence.

For example, if you are struggling with flashbacks like many of my clients from the blue light services, we create a mental safe and relaxing state during hypnosis. This safe state becomes a refuge you return to and unconsciously call upon long beyond the actual session.

The Benefits of Online Trauma-Focused Hypnotherapy

In today’s world, many people prefer the comfort and convenience of online therapy. Trauma-focused hypnotherapy works wonderfully in an online manner. There are many reasons why my clients from all over the world do not have to get on a plane to come over to see me in person!

  • Comfort of your own space: You can relax in a familiar environment, which helps you feel safer.

  • Accessibility: No need to travel or rearrange your schedule. You can connect from anywhere.

  • Privacy: Online sessions offer a discreet way to seek help.

  • Flexibility: Scheduling is often easier, fitting into your busy life.

If you’re curious about trying this approach, consider exploring online hypnotherapy. It’s a supportive way to start your healing journey without leaving home.

What to Expect in Your First Sessions

Starting trauma-focused hypnotherapy can feel both exciting and a little scary. That is completely understandable, though within minutes of meeting me, whether in person or online, you will be at ease. You can explore my website, read my books, watch my youtube videos and get to know me before we actually meet. Trust your unconscious mind to know which therapist you are drawn to when youtube presents different options.

  1. 'NLP' questions and our free consultation: I know how to ask the right questions to reveal to you how you can already be helping yourself straightaway and understand your needs.

  2. Setting goals: Together, we will decide what you want to achieve, what you want to be different in your life today.

  3. Explaining the process: You’ll learn from me a little of how hypnosis works and what to expect.

  4. First hypnosis session: This will be gentle and focused on relaxation and safety.

  5. Ongoing support: Each session builds on the last, moving at your pace.

Remember, you are always in control. You can stop or pause at any time. Any professional therapist is there to guide and support you,in whatever manner best serves you and help you focus. Hypnosis is not a belief system: hypnosis is focus.
